Toshiba America Consumer Products объявила о запуске новой рекламной кампании для продвижения HD DVD. Новая кампания в целом призвана повысить осведомленность пользователей о преимуществах данного формата и включит рекламу на телевидении, в точках продаж, в полиграфических изданиях и т.д.

Вместе с этим, Toshiba сообщила о снижении рекомендуемой розничной стоимости своих HD DVD-проигрывателей. Отныне рекомендуемая розничная стоимость плеера высокой четкости начального уровня Toshiba HD-A3 составляет $150, HD-A30 с поддержкой Full HD - $200. Рекомендуемая стоимость флагманской модели HD-A35 опустилась до отметки в $300. Цифры указаны для американского рынка. При покупке каждого из вышеперечисленных устройств покупатель получает в подарок 5 видеодисков HD DVD. Предложение действует с 13 января.

Кроме того, интернет-магазин Amazon.com снизил стоимость многих HD DVD-дисков с фильмами. Цена некоторых из них упала до $15.

По словам вице-президента Toshiba Digital A/V Group Йоши Ачияма (Yoshi Uchiyama), продажи за минувший праздничный период доказали высокую осведомленность покупателей о формате HD DVD, при этом стоимость оказалась критическим фактором при выборе формата.
