Корпорация Toshiba продемонстрировала ЖК-телевизор, в основе которого лежит мощный многоядерный процессор Cell, используемый также в игровой консоли нового поколения Sony PlayStation 3, сообщает Reg Hardware.

Во время представления на экран телевизора выводилась секвенция изображений различного содержания, успешно продемонстрирована функция "картинка в картинке", а также масштабирование изображения со стандартным качеством в HD со значительно меньшим количеством артефактов, чем в современных телевизорах при использовании этой же возможности. Процессор Cell способен выполнять достаточно сложные операции, например, транслировать на экран одновременно до 48 эпизодов от видеофайла стандартной четкости, обрабатывать одновременно несколько ТВ-каналов и т.д.

Процессор Cell был разработан в 2001 г. компанией Toshiba совместно с Sony и IBM как универсальное решение для обработки сложных вычислений в цифровой технике. О коммерческой реализации представленного ТВ не сообщалось.
