Южнокорейская компания Samsung Electronics официально сообщила, что ей удалось изготовить первый образец AMOLED-телевизора с размером экрана 40 дюймов. Как известно, AMOLED-дисплеи не нуждаются в подсветке, так как они сами излучают свет. Многие аналитики считают, что именно технология AMOLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diodes) станет доминирующей в плоскопанельных телевизорах в ближайшие годы. Они потребляют намного меньше электроэнергии, и обеспечивают лучшее качество изображения, а также имеют меньшую толщину, чем существующие представители плазменных и ЖК-телевизоров. По словам представителей Samsung, компания планирует продемонстрировать свой первый 40-дюймовый AMOLED-телевизор на выставке CES 2008, которая состоится в Лас Вегас в январе следующего года. Они также утверждают, что это первый AMOLED-телевизор с таким размером экрана. В данный момент единственная модель AMOLED-телевизора, которая уже поступила в продажу, это Sony XEL-1 с размером экрана 11 дюймов. О цене своей новинки представители Samsung предпочли умолчать.
