Как известно, сейчас в производстве ЖК-мониторов для защиты тонкой плёнки, формирующей изображение, используются специальные стеклянные пластины повышенной прозрачности. Пластины эти стоят недешево, многие компании пытались найти решение, которое позволило бы снизить стоимость производства, однако первой это сделать удалось Samsung.<br /><br />На выставке FPD International 2007 в Йокогаме (Япония) компания представила 19-дюймовые панели с натрий-кальций-силикатным (Soda-Lime, проще говоря – обычным, оконным) стеклом, основными компонентами которого являются двуокись кремния, оксиды натрия и кальция. Толщина такого стекла всего 0,5-0,7 мм, поэтому на толщину готовой ЖК-панели это не повлияет. Но самое главное - снижается себестоимость.<br /><br /><div align="center"><img src="http://www.hdtv.ru/uploads/posts/1193321716_191517.jpg" style="border: none;" alt='Samsung придумала, как сделать LCD дешевле' /></div><br /><br />Что касается характеристик представленного на выставке образца, то они находятся на уровне современных дисплеев: яркость 300 cd/m2, контрастность 1000:1, цветность по шкале NTSC 72%. По словам Ли Санг-Вана (Lee Sang-Wan), директора направления ЖК-телевизоров Samsung, работы над массовым производством Soda-Lime – мониторов уже ведутся на фабрике Samsung 5-го поколения по изготовлению LCD-панелей.
