Южнокорейский производитель электроники компания Samsung разработала ЖК-панель толщиной всего 10 мм. Дисплей c длиной диагонали 40 дюймов планируется использовать в следующем поколении ЖК-телевизоров. Он поддерживает полное разрешение высокой четкости, способен воспроизводить около 92% цветового диапазона NTSC и отличается сравнительно невысоким энергопотреблением - менее 90 Вт. Вместо традиционных люминесцентных ламп в качестве подсветки используются светодиоды, что позволило не только сократить габаритные размеры панели, но и обеспечить более качественную цветопередачу. По словам официальных представителей, панель настолько тонкая, что ее можно сравнить с дисплеями, используемыми в производстве компьютерных мониторов.

Пока не известно, какова будет толщина будущих телевизоров Samsung, однако вполне очевидно, что для размещения блока питания, тюнера и других компонентов потребуется дополнительное пространство. В настоящий момент рекордсменом является японская компания Hitachi, которая в начале октября представила широкой публике прототип самого тонкого ЖК-телевизора в мире. При длине диагонали 32 дюйма его толщина составляла всего 19 мм.

Ожидается, что панель Samsung будет представлена на выставке FPD International 2007. Вероятно, там станет известно о сроках выхода новых телевизоров.

Вместе с новой панелью на выставке будет продемонстрирован ряд других инновационных продуктов Samsung. Особое внимание уделяется ЖК-панелям для ноутбуков с нетрадиционным соотношением сторон 16:9, а также еще одна компьютерная ЖК-панель на базе светодиодной подсветки с коэффициентом контрастности не менее 10000:1. Мероприятие пройдет в Йокогаме, Япония, в период с 24 по 26 октября.
