Южнокорейская компания Samsung Electronics сообщила об успешной разработке компьютерного дисплея с белой светодиодной подсветкой (White-LED). Дисплей имеет диагональ 15,4 дюйма, поддерживает 1440 x 900 пикселей и обладает коэффициентом контрастности изображения не менее 10000:1, что в десять раз больше, чем у современных панелей ноутбуков.

Благодаря использованию подсветки White-LED, состоящей из синих светодиодов, энергопотребление панели удалось снизить по сравнению с обычной светодиодной подсветкой на целых 40%.

Также компания представила еще два дисплея: 16- и 18,4-дюймовые, оба широкоформатные с соотношением сторон 16:9, как и большинство современных телевизоров. По словам официальных представителей компании, в основном ноутбуки обладают экранами с соотношением 16:10, однако смотреть фильмы и цифровое ТВ, а также играть в видеоигры, лучше именно с такими пропорциями.

Оба дисплея обладают сравнительно высокой цветовой насыщенностью. В то время как современные дисплеи для ноутбуков демонстрируют насыщенность цвета 40-50%, в первой панели она составляет 60%, во второй - 90%.

Массовое производство White-LED-дисплеев с контрастностью 10000:1 запланировано на II половину 2008 г., широкоформатных дисплеев - на I половину.
