1 Октября в Амстердаме (Нидерланды) на конференции разработчиков стандарта Wireless USB было объявлено, что разработка спецификации Wireless USB 1.1 будет завершена в первой половине 2008 года. Новая спецификация будет основана на существующей версии 1.0, принятой ещё в 2005 году, но расширит диапазон используемых частот до 6 ГГц и выше.

Стандарт Wireless USB полностью совместим с технологией USB. Участники форума USB-IF надеются развить успех стандарта USB и превратить его в новый стандарт беспроводной связи. Сейчас во всём мире существуют более 2 миллиардов USB устройств. Согласно спецификации Wireless USB 1.0, можно подключаться и обмениваться данными на скорости 480 Мбит/с в радиусе 3 м, и 110 Мбит/с в радиусе 10 м при максимальном количестве USB устройств не более 127 единиц. Диапазон частот будет расширен до 6 ГГц, а энергопотребление будет значительно снижено. С новым стандартом будут работать клавиатуры, мыши, видео- и фотокамеры, MP3-плееры, словом, любые USB-устройства с пропускной способностью до 480 Мбит/с будут совместимы со спецификацией Wireless USB 1.0 или 1.1.

В настоящее время в работе форума USB-IF участвуют более 100 компаний и организаций, в том числе HP, Intel Corporation, LSI Logic, Microsoft Corporation, NEC Corporation, NXP Semiconductors, и Samsung Electronics.
