Если в версиях игр для ПК и используются функции нового API, то они не являются фундаментальными, а чаще применяются для постобработки или некоторых других незначительных улучшений графики. Кроме этого, создателям игр нужно рассчитывать и на слабые ПК, а зачастую и на встроенные графические чипы — оптимизировать игру для самых слабых и самых мощных ПК практически невозможно, поэтому мощности последних видеоускорителей зачастую используются напрасно или не используются вообще.<br /><br />Выход Half-Life 2 Orange Box для ПК и Xbox 360 назначен на 12 октября. Потенциал DirectX 10 здесь будет использоваться только для ускорения мимики персонажей и визуально отличить версии будет практически невозможно. Издание для PS3 разрабатывается студией Electronic Arts, его выход состоится на 2—3 недели позже.
