Компания Call/Recall, специализирующаяся на разработке носителей информации, объявила о создании новой технологии изготовления 5,25-дюймовых лазерных дисков, которая позволяет записать на один носитель до 1 ТБ информации. Приобрести подробное описание и лицензию на новую технологию производители могут уже сегодня.<br /><br />Двухфотонная трехмерная технология записи оптических дисков (именно такое название получила разработка) в отличие от традиционных оптических носителей, включая диски DVD, Blu-ray и HD DVD, предлагает создавать носители не с двухмерной, а с трехмерной матрицей битов, формирование которой осуществляется двухфотонным лазером в 3D-пространстве диска. Инновационная технология позволяет размещать слои данных на расстоянии менее 10 микрон друг от друга.<br /><br />Таким образом, общее число слоев в диске 2-photon 3D может быть эквивалентно 250 слоям DVD, а емкость такого слоя может быть в 5 раз выше, чем емкость слоя современного накопителя высокой четкости. Записать на такой диск можно 1 ТБ данных — это в 40 раз больше по сравнению с однослойными дисками Blu-ray и HD DVD (или в 20 раз больше по сравнению с двухслойными дисками) и до 200 раз превышает емкость DVD-диска. Кроме того, одновременно с увеличением плотности записи данных разработчикам удалось поднять скорость обмена данными с диском, которая составляет от 100 до 500 Мбит/сек. Для примера: базовая скорость дисков Blu-ray (1x) ограничивается 36 Мбит/сек.<br /><br />Изготавливать диски можно на основе существующей производственной базы с незначительным изменением оборудования, которое в данный момент используется для изготовления дисков DVD и Blu-ray — и это, пожалуй, является важнейшим преимуществом нового формата.<br /><br />В компании уверены, что технология 2-photon 3D откроет новые горизонты как в корпоративных системах хранения данных, позволяя создавать серверы емкостью 100 ТБ и более, так и в пользовательской электронике — например, можно будет делать 50-гигабайтные диски для мобильных телефонов, портативных медиаплееров и игровых приставок диаметром всего в один дюйм.<br /><br />Технология была разработана Питером Рензеписом (Peter Rentzepis), владельцем более 80 патентов, используемых ведущими компаниями по всему миру, включая IBM, Panasonic и Hitachi. Воспользоваться технологией и получить лицензию на производство дисков 2-photon 3D производители могут уже сейчас.<br /><br />Напомним, что около месяца назад нечто подобное было представлено компанией Hitachi. Технология дает возможность записывать на оптические диски формата Blu-ray до 200 ГБ данных. Предложенная инженерами Hitachi методика была основана на применении специальной оптической системы, позволяющей выполнять запись и чтение информации с восьми слоев вместо двух (каждый слой имеет емкость 25 ГБ). Ранее подобный метод был продемонстрирован компанией TDK, которая предложила записывать 6 слоев по 33 ГБ каждый. Коммерческое производство подобных дисков намечено на 2009 год.
