Согласно информации анонимного источника, которая появилась в заметке австралийского сайта Smarthouse, следующая PlayStation может появиться в продаже мене, чем через 18 месяцев.<br /><br />Не стоит ожидать принципиальных изменений в начинке консоли - устройство будет построено на той же архитектуре, что и PS3, однако будет иметь новый отсек для винчестера и способ его подключения. Новая версия консоли, по словам источника, будет поставляться с довольно мощным программным обеспечением, которое понадобится для управления различным медиаконтентом (телевидение, HD-видео, Hi-Fi аудио).<br /><br />Похоже, что эти изменения направлены на смещение приоритетов PS3 от игровой консоли в сторону развлекательного центра. Стоит вспомнить, что Sony уже выпускала аналогичный продукт на базе PlayStation 2. Домашний медиа-центр PSX, который включает функцию DVD-рекордера, поступил в продажу только на территории Японии 13 декабря 2003 года, однако из-за крайне слабых продаж так и не был выпущен на остальных территориях.
