Дочерняя компания по выпуску полупроводниковых элементов корпорации Sony на днях объявила об увеличении производства сине-фиолетовых лазерных светодиодов, с нынешних 1.7 миллионов в месяц, до 5 миллионов в ближайшем будущем. В июне цена на диоды составляла около 8$ за штуку (для оптовых партий), при этом, в конце года, на рынке приводы в сборе стоили 125$ (с учетом стоимости механики и электронных компонентов). Аналитики предсказывают, что понижение стоимости компонентов может повлиять на производителей приводов на основе «синего лазера» для приставок Sony PS3. В этой связи, можно ожидать снижения стоимости приставки до $499, что позволит ей уверенно конкурировать с новинкой от Microsoft  - Xbox 360 Elite. Безусловно, подобное снижение цены могло бы быть хорошим ответом на последние «ценовые удары» Toshiba, хотя, ничто не мешает главному конкуренту Blu-ray отреагировать очередным снижением цены.
