Lieberfarb) – бывший президент Warner Home Video, один из создателей формата DVD, а в настоящее время, главный консультант HD-DVD Promotion Group, в интервью он-лайн изданию Variety поделился своими мыслями по поводу противостояния форматов HD DVD и Blu-Ray.<br />Этот человек принимал непосредственное участие в «воине форматов Betamax vs. VHS» 80-х годов, когда Sony потерпела оглушительное поражение со своим передовым  форматом для домашнего видео Betamax, он нашел компромиссное решение, и не допустил повторения «кровопролития» в случае с форматом DVD (за что в Голливуде получил прозвище «Крестный отец DVD»). К сожалению, сейчас Уоррен Либерфарб не собирается искать компромиссы и довольно активно выступает на стороне HD DVD (читаем: Microsoft, Toshiba).<br />Он признается, что насторожился еще в январе 2002 года, когда на ежегодной выставке Consumer Electronics Show, к альянсу Matsushita-Philips, разрабатывающему новый формат оптических видео-дисков, присоединилась корпорация Sony. Образовавшийся альянс Либерфарб назвал «образованием, похожим на мафиозный картель,  созданный для того, что бы вынудить остальных производителей электроники безоговорочно принять свой новый формат». В подтверждение своих слов, он приводит тот факт что BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association) разрабатывала свой формат без участия организации <a href="http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml" target="_blank">DVD Forum</a> , созданной в 1997 году, и соблюдающей интересы медиа-студий и производителей техники.<br />Будучи на посту президента Warner Home Video, Либерфарб даже отдавал распоряжение антимонопольному отделу фирмы подготовить документы, с указанием незаконных действий со стороны BDA, для передачи в Министерство Юстиции США. Но остальное руководство Warner Home Video не поддержало его воинственного настроя и дело спустили на тормозах.<br />Кроме того, «Крестный отец DVD» посетовал на неверные действия некоторых представителей  DVD Forum. «Если бы киностудии уделяли меньше времени созданию «непобедимых» систем защиты от копирования, а сосредоточились бы на более быстром появлении новинок на полках магазинов» распространение формата HD DVD происходила бы гораздо быстрее, и, возможно, еще в прошлом году, он бы занимал лидирующее положение на рынке.<br />Отвечая на вопрос о возможности «мирных переговоров» Либерфарб ответил: «Переговоры никогда не преодолевают подготовительной стадии», имея в виду что «боевые действия» зашли уже слишком далеко. В заключение он заметил, что на данный момент, самым серьезным аргументом для той или иной стороны, будет являться агрессивная ценовая политика.<br />
