Дела Microsoft идут отлично: благодаря Vista, общий объем продаж за I квартал 2007 года вырос на 32% по сравнению с аналогичным периодом 2006 года, а прибыль за квартал выросла на 63% и составила почти $5 миллиардов. Но игрового подразделения, куда входят Xbox 360, Microsoft Game Studios, Games for Windows и Zune, это не касается.

За три месяца оно заработало всего $929 миллионов – на 21 процент меньше, чем в прошлом году. Chief Financial Officer компании Крис Лиделл сообщил, что в Microsoft ожидали падения продаж – поэтому и поставили себе скромную цель продать за первую половину 2007 года всего 2 миллиона Xbox 360 и довести количество отгруженных Zune до миллиона. Причины такой «расслабленности» Microsoft, которая не слишком торопится воспользоваться трудностями Sony, не совсем понятны, но нет сомнения, что они достаточно существенные.
