Мы являемся свидетелями бурного развития ЖК-индустрии. Размер экрана ЖК-телевизоров постепенно увеличивается. Теперь уже никого не удивишь 65, 100 и даже 108-дюймовым аппаратом. Наращивают диагональ уверенными темпами и ЖК-мониторы. Ряд производителей первого эшелона и крупные сборщики, такие как Samsung, Philips, Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP) начали поставки 30-дюймовых моделей. Компания ViewSonic недавно отличилась запуском в серию 28-дюймового монитора. Увеличивают своё присутствие на рынке мониторы с диагональю 24, 26 и 27 дюймов.

На данный момент можно говорить о существовании широкого ряда ЖК-мониторов с диагоналями, принадлежащим к категории "больших": 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27 и 30 дюймов. Если рассмотреть градацию по размерам ЖК-телевизоров, очевидна аналогия с 20, 23, 26, 27 и 30-дюймовыми мониторами. Ввиду тенденции внедрения в большие мониторы развитых мультимедийных функций и снижения цен на ЖК-панели, возникает резонное предположение о замене мониторами телевизоров с популярными размерами от 20 до 30 дюймов.

Однако на сегодняшний день процессу замещения препятствует значительная разница в стоимости. Очевидно, что нынешние розничные цены на большие ЖК-мониторы гораздо выше, чем на телевизоры с идентичными размерами. Для сравнения приведём стоимость продуктов с диагональю 30 дюймов. Согласно данным, взятым из онлайновых торговых сетей BestBuy и Walmart, 30-дюймовые ЖК-телевизоры стоят от $600 до $1200 в зависимости от модели и производителя. В то время как цены на ЖК-мониторы такого же размера находятся в пределах $1450-$1700. Ситуация с некоторыми другими диагоналями отражена в таблице:

Тайваньские источники добавили, что в сейчас для производителей наиболее прибыльными являются мониторные панели размером 19 и 22 дюйма, которые выпускаются на фабриках поколения 5,5. Согласно данным DigiTimes Research, азиатские компании уже готовы к использованию мощностей 6-го поколения для производства панелей для мониторов с размерами 22 и 23 дюйма.
