Оказалось, что достижение постоянного качества обслуживания очень непростая задача. Телекоммуникационные компании всего мира попросту недооценили масштаб проблем, которые ожидают поставщика услуг при поддержке QoS IPTV.<br /><br />Единственная компания, которая вроде бы держит все возможные проблемы под контролем, это гонконгская PCCW. Один из руководителей компании, Пол Бэрриман (Paul Berriman), заявляет, что его специалистам удалось настолько глубоко разобраться во всех аспектах работы своей IPTV-платформы, что технических проблем попросту не осталось и теперь компания может целиком сосредоточиться исключительно на продаже своих услуг. И этим словам можно верить: в настоящий момент у PCCW 700 тыс. IPTV-клиентов, а до конца года их должно стать около миллиона человек. Правда, никакого чуда в этом нет – свое первое пилотное VoD-обслуживание компания запустила еще в далеком 1997 году. Помогают компании особенности строения местных сетей, а также высокая плотность населения.<br /><br />Среди других проблем, сдерживающих развитие IPTV-операторов, следует назвать достаточное количество спутниковых и кабельных компаний, готовых предложить конечному потребителю качественную "картинку". Поэтому IPTV выходит на рынок, уже готовый к равноценной конкуренции. При этом, поскольку в большинстве своем компании предпочитают сейчас предлагать IPTV как часть общего пакета услуг, любая, даже самая небольшая проблема, может вызвать плохое качество IPTV и как следствие отказ от него, а значит и отказ от всего пакета сразу. Т.е. даже минимальные задержки и потери могут стать губительными для компании, предлагающей IP-телевидение.<br /><br />А объем контента не будет сдерживающим фактором, т.к. аналогичное наполнение клиенту будут готовы предложить сразу множество конкурентов.
