Вместе с обновлением 1.6 такой клиент вышел и для PlayStation 3. В результате того, что всего 30 тысяч пользователей теперь регулярно жертвуют машинное время своих систем на научные исследования, общая производительность «распределенного суперкомьютера» Folding@Home выросла втрое. Если верить <a href="http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=osstats" target="_blank">статистике проекта</a>, 492 терафлопа из 753 теперь обеспечивают консоли Sony. Цифры впечатляют – но если посмотреть на строку выше, где отражается вклад в проект клиентов, написанных под GPU AMD Radeon X1900, то можно увидеть нечно еще более впечатляющее. Всего 775 активных GPU обеспечивают 46 терафлопов, в то время как для достижения в десять раз большей производительности понадобилось в сорок раз больше процессоров Cell. Конечно, статистику Folding@Home некорректно использовать в качестве «бенчмарка», поскольку она зависит от ряда факторов, не связанных напрямую с производительностью. Но грубые оценки сделать можно. По ним получается, что Radeon X1900 «сильнее» Cell в физических вычислениях примерно во столько же раз, во сколько Cell «сильнее» Core 2 Duo.<br /><br />В любом случае, теперь благодаря консольному вкладу исследования белков пойдут значительно быстрее.
