Компания U-Tech Media, крупнейший тайваньский производитель записанных дисков, успешно выпустила первые записанные диски HD DVD. Сейчас образцы продукции проходят сертификацию у потенциальных клиентов.

На сегодняшний день голливудские студии и некоторые независимые кинопродюсеры имеют доступ лишь к нескольким OEM-производителям, способным в больших объёмах выпускать новые кинофильмы на HD-носителях. К таким компаниям относятся расположенная в Австрии Sony Digital Audio Disc Corporation (DADC) и японская Memory-Tech. Например, Sony DADC располагает тремя производственными линиями с ежемесячной производительностью в 750 тысяч записанных дисков HD DVD, в то время как Memory-Tech для производства новых дисков инвестировала значительные средства в компанию Shaghai United Optical Disc. Но о производственных возможностях последней информации нет.

Впрочем, в ближайшее время участники рынка всё равно не планируют размещать OEM-заказы для неких новых производителей. Поэтому в самом начале U-Tech планирует обеспечить заказы за счёт производителей и продавцов бытовой электроники, например такой, как DVD-проигрыватели, которые захотят продавать фильмы на HD DVD вместе со своей техникой. Но как только мировой спрос на синелазерные технологии взлетит вверх, U-Tech будет соревноваться в получении OEM-заказов на производство дисков от голливудских студий.

Известно также о совместной работе U-Tech Media и её компании-учредителя Ritek над массовым выпуском записанных дисков Blu-Ray. Существует непроверенная информация о том, что такие диски U-Tech также начнёт выпускать уже в первой половине текущего года.
