Philips намеревается перейти к использованию в плоских телевизорах мерцающей флуоресцентной подсветки вместо традиционной непрерывной подсветки с помощью светоизлучающих диодов (Light Emitting Diodes - LED). Мерцающая подсветка приводит к тому, что человеческий глаз перестает воспринимать артефакты и видит более четкое изображение. Мерцающая подсветка является конечным этапом технологии, нацеленной на уменьшение размытости и нечеткости изображения - дефектам, нашедшим широкое распространение в ЖК-телевизорах. Новый способ подсветки носит название Aptura.

По словам представителей компании, в случае решения продолжить инвестиции в Aptura, Philips будет вынужден параллельно продолжать инвестиции и в нашедший широкое распространение способ светодиодной подсветки, кроме того, в отличие от Aptura, использование светодиодов позволяет выпускать более тонкие ЖК-телевизоры.

Между тем, впервые о своем намерении использовать стробоскопическую подсветку компания сообщила несколько лет назад. А первый телевизор с подобной подсветкой был выпущен совместно с LG Electronics еще в прошлом году.

Компания Philips решила прекратить дальнейшее развитие фирменной технологии мерцающей подсветки Aptura, используемой в ЖК-телевизорах.

Система Aptura предполагала сведение к минимуму нечеткости и размытости изображения на ЖК-телевизорах. Мерцающая подсветка была разработана как альтернатива традиционной непрерывной подсветке.

Стало известно, что руководство Philips неожиданно приняло решение отказаться от системы Aptura, поскольку развитие технологии мерцающей подсветки требует серьезных финансовых затрат.
