Европейский рынок оптических приводов пока за HD DVD Согласно полученной информации, европейский рынок оптических приводов (проигрывателей, рекордеров, приводов для ПК), во многом благодаря 499-долларовому HD-рекордеру HD-E1 компании Toshiba, на 85% принадлежит оптическим носителям нового поколения HD DVD (HD). Напомним, что до старта продаж HD-E1 в конце 2006 года, на долю формата HD DVD приходилось не многим более 58% проигрывателей нового поколения.

Однако представители альтернативного лагеря: Sony и Samsung Electronics, чей удельный вес на европейском рынке не превышает 15%, не унывают. Как ожидается, скорое появление игровой приставки PlayStation3, оборудованной приводом Blu-ray Disc (BD), как уже бывало, перевернет ситуацию на европейском рынке. Кроме того, в арсенале компании Sony имеется проигрыватель BDP-S300, чья цена в $599, хоть и не может напрямую конкурировать с HD-E1, но, возможно, окажется вполне приемлемой для потенциальных покупателей – приверженцев технологии BD.

Однако, как отмечает источник, несмотря на уверенность BD-производителей в хорошем европейском старте PlayStation3, основную роль в раскладе сил будет играть цена на проигрывающие/записывающие устройства. При этом, психологически важной является отметка в $500, и только ее преодоление позволит BD-проигрывателям успешно конкурировать со своими HD-аналогами.
