До сих пор у желающих приобщиться к Blu-ray было две возможности: либо приобрести специальный плеер вроде Sony BDP-S1 за тысячу долларов, либо купить за $500-$600 (или дороже) PS3, которая, помимо прочего, способна воспроизводить диски этого формата. То есть, фактически, PS3 в роли BD-плеера была вне конкуренции с точки зрения цены.

Однако проигрыватель нового поколения, BDP-S300 будет стоить примерно столько же ($599), так что тем, кто хочет смотреть HD-видео, уже не придется получать игровую приставку «в нагрузку». Представители Sony обещают, что к следующему Рождеству BD-плееры будут стоить уже менее $500, и отнюдь не за горами время, когда цена опустится до $50-60.
