Согласно официальному сообщению, появление на рынке этого стандарта склонит чашу весов на рынке в пользу HD DVD, и даже обеспечит победу в «войне форматов» с Blu-ray.<br /><br />В основу технологии положено использование красного лазера, но, по сравнению с классическим DVD, новый формат обеспечивает высокое качество разрешения с возможностью воспроизведения только на устройствах HD DVD. Диски 3X DVD будут поддерживать аналогичную файловую структуру UDF 2.5 и защиту от перезаписи AACS.<br />В одном ряду с этой новостью стоит и сообщение от Eclipse Data Technology, которая обещает свободный доступ к программным обновлениям всем заинтересованным участникам рынка. «По мере роста интереса к 3X DVD, мы хотим дать возможность за небольшие деньги поэкспериментировать и изучить эту технологию», – заявил вице-президент по продажам и маркетингу компании Боб Эдмондс (Bob Edmonds).<br /><br />В сообщении также отмечается, что несколько производителей уже заинтересовались новым форматом, нацеленным на потребителей, не обременённых избытком финансовых средств, но желающих получить «дешёвый входной билет на рынок видео высокой чёткости».<br />   <br />Вряд ли путь внедрения 3X DVD будет усыпан розами. Для записи в этом формате необходимо использование кодеков VC-1 и AVC со снижением качества разрешения от 1080p до 720p. Многие аналитики сомневаются, что этот путь правилен, а также что создатели HD DVD поддержат такой шаг. И даже успешное развитие проекта Xbox Live Video, позволяющего просматривать видео с подобным качеством (кодек VC-1, 720p), отнюдь не гарантирует успех 3X DVD. <br /><br />Ситуация на сегодняшнем рынке HD-видео показывает, что цена не является определяющим фактором при выборе формата. Так, HD DVD уже заметно дешевле в производстве по сравнению с дисками Blu-ray, однако большинство киностудий выбирают именно Blu-ray. Видимо, ключ к успеху в этом сегменте рынка лежит в несколько иной плоскости.
