На днях стало известно, что Canon решила выкупить SED-бизнес у Toshiba, вместе с которой несколько лет назад начинала его. SED Inc после завершения всех официальных процедур станет частью корпорации Canon. Напомним, что SED (Surface-conduction electron-emitter display – дисплей на базе поверхностной электронной проводимости) – это следующий этап в эволюции мониторов типа ЭЛТ. Только в отличие от обычных электронно-трубочных мониторов вместо одной большой электронной пушки, обуславливающей их внешний вид, в SED-дисплее установлено по одной маленькой пушке напротив каждого зерна люминофора. Основной причиной, по которой было принято это решение, стал патентный иск, предъявленный компанией Nano-Proprietary. Ещё в 2005 начались разбирательство по данному делу, а в качестве ответчика выступал альянс Toshiba-Canon. Проблема состояла в том, что патентное соглашение было заключено эксклюзивно между Nano-Proprietary и Canon, поэтому участие в деле Toshiba оказалось нежелательным. Потенциально весьма доходный бизнес опять повис в воздухе, но судя по последним данным, Nano-Proprietary согласна урегулировать дело с Canon на взаимовыгодных условиях.<br /><div align="center"><img src="http://www.hdtv.ru/hdtvimg/592_sed.jpg" style="border: none;" alt='Canon выкупает SED-бизнес у Toshiba' title='Canon выкупает SED-бизнес у Toshiba' /></div><br />Новая организация, SED Inc, будет иметь порядка 550 сотрудников, а руководитель организации не сменится даже после перехода под единоличную власть Canon. Стоимость сделки с Toshiba не разглашается. SED-дисплеи имеют заметно более высокую стоимость производства, по сравнению с их главными конкурентами – жидкокристаллическими и плазменными панелями, что также сдерживает пока их распространение. Однако потенциально более высокое качество и контраст изображения всё же оставляют надежду на то, что массовое производство данных дисплеев начнётся в не самом отдалённом будущем. Пока что официальной датой запуска SED-дисплеев в производство считается четвёртый квартал этого года, однако скептики напоминают нам, что анонс SED откладывался уже в течение нескольких лет. Сама же Canon планирует инвестировать почти полтора миллиарда долларов в строительство завода в Японии по производству SED-дисплеев.
