Формат HD DVD, продвигаемый группой компаний во главе с японской Toshiba, по ёмкости чуть ли не вдвое проигрывает носителям Blu-ray. Взамен сторонники HD DVD убеждают нас в дешевизне перехода с производства DVD-штамповок на штамповки HD DVD-ROM, поскольку глубина информационного слоя у них одинакова – 0.6 мм. Выигрывают от этого, понятное дело, только производители дисков. Для конечного пользователя стоимость "болванок" для записи и дисков с фильмами будет примерно одинакова, возьмём ли мы HD DVD, или Blu-ray Disc. А вот что пользователю совсем "неодинаково", так это ёмкость носителя. В компании Toshiba это понимают, будьте уверены. Самым лучшим подтверждением тому служит анонс 51-ГБ формата HD DVD-ROM:<br><p><!--ThumbBegin--><a href="#" onClick="ShowBild('http://www.hdtv.ru/hdtvimg/479_51.jpg'); return false;" ><img src="http://www.hdtv.ru/hdtvimg/thumbs/479_51.jpg" style="border: none;" alt='Toshiba анонсирует 51-ГБ HD DVD-ROM...' /></a><!--ThumbEnd--><p>Разрабатывая новый носитель, на целый гигабайт превышающий по объёму конкурирующий двухслойный 50-ГБ диск Blu-ray, Toshiba сделала две вещи. Во-первых, ею уменьшен размер прожигаемого лазером пятна (пита). В результате этого на один слой можно будет записывать вместо 15 ГБ чуть больше – 17 ГБ данных. Во-вторых, компания перешла на трёхслойную структуру диска. Три слоя по 17 ГБ в каждом дают искомый объём 51 ГБ. Ура?<br>Настораживает один момент. Компания весьма лаконично осветила технические подробности относительно новой разработки. Вот часть текста из описания структуры трёхслойного диска: "The new disc shares the same disc structure as standard DVD and previously announced HD DVD formats: two 0.6-mm thick discs bonded back-to-back.". Эту фразу можно понимать так, что речь идёт всё же о двухсторонней компоновке. Два слоя с одной стороны диска и один слой с другой стороны. Отметим, фотографии образцов 51-ГБ HD DVD-ROM дисков опровергают такую версию. Но вопрос о структуре нового формата мы пока будем считать открытым.<br>Двухсторонняя компоновка, кстати, явление в индустрии обычное и нет никаких особых трудностей в её адаптации для производства HD DVD-ROM (если действительно речь идёт о двухстороннем диске). Только вот пользоваться такими носителями несколько неудобно. Чтобы перевернуть такой диск на другую сторону придётся вставать с дивана. В противном случае, если новый формат действительно трёхслойный, боюсь, разговоры о дешёвом переходе с производства двухслойных DVD на трёхслойные HD DVD теряют всякий смысл, так как обойдётся он ненамного дешевле закупок нового оборудования для выпуска продукции формата Blu-ray Disc. В эту же копилку возможных проблем с совместимостью можно добавить предложение компании по снижению размера пита. Есть также опасение, что с современными HD DVD плеерами трёхслойные диски будут несовместимы (двухсторонний подход, заметим, данную проблему решит без труда).<br>Одним словом, желание Toshiba обойти Sony, предложив более ёмкий носитель, понять можно. Только вот сразу возникает много вопросов о целесообразности такого шага на этапе зарождения рынка "синих" носителей. Как бы не испортить того, что уже достигнуто. Есть хорошая пословица, не рекомендующая менять коней на переправе. Возможно, Toshiba чувствует слабость своей позиции в борьбе с конкурирующим форматом, и деваться ей особо некуда. Да, и вряд ли получится. Её конкурент, компания Sony, имеет в своём активе прототипы даже четырёхслойных 100-ГБ Blu-ray дисков.<br>На момент анонса новый формат HD DVD-ROM имеет статус экспериментального. Компания надеется представить его DVD Форуму и утвердить до конца текущего года. Печально констатировать, но наращивание числа слоёв ещё дальше уводит нас в сторону от появления универсальных "синих" приводов и развязывает новый виток "гонки вооружений" носителей нового поколения.
