Компании Canon и Toshiba ведут совместные работы над созданием SED-дисплеев, которые считаются одним из возможных вариантов развития телевизионных панелей. Однако сами создатели с осторожностью относятся к перспективам SED-телевизоров. Согласно заявлению президента и управляющего директора компании Toshiba, Ацутоши Нишида (Atsutoshi Nishida), их детище вряд ли сможет составить конкуренцию современным жидкокристаллическим телевизорам.

Согласно представленному на страницах японского издания Mainichi Newspapers заявлению, основным недостатком SED-панелей остаётся слишком высокая стоимость и сложность обеспечения необходимого количества поставляемых на рынок дисплеев. Однако руководство Toshiba не исключает возможность устранения указанных недостатков в будущем, и вполне могут занять около 20% – 30% мирового рынка телевизионных панелей с диагональю 50 дюймов.

Отметим, что Toshiba уже демонстрировала свои 50-дюймовые SED-панели на некоторых крупных выставках, а весной следующего года планируется официально выпустить устройства на мировой рынок.
