Компания Sharp заявила о начале массового производства голубых лазерных светодиодов, ориентируясь на рынок с высоким потенциалом роста. Эта продукция применяется как в оптических приводах формата Blu-ray, так и формата HD DVD, следовательно, Sharp со своими светодиодами не останется в накладе при любом исходе конкурентной борьбы между этими двумя стандартами. Сообщается, что объем производства на текущий момент составляет около 150 тыс. единиц в месяц.<br /><br />Начиная производство голубых лазерных светодиодов, Sharp вышла на рынок, где до сих пор доминировали Sony и Nichia. В планах компании – довести объем производства до 500 тыс. единиц в месяц к концу 2007 г. Согласно прогнозу издания Nihon Keizai Shimbun, на начальном этапе это направление бизнеса будет приносить Sharp около 127,2 млн. долл. ежегодно.
