Fujitsu Limited сообщила о выпуске нового LSI (large-scale integrated circuit)-чипа, который в режиме реального времени позволяет обрабатывать (кодировать и декодировать) видео в высоком разрешении (HDTV, 1920 x 1080) в формат H.264. Официально LSI-чип, производимый по 90-нм нормам, должен быть представлен лишь в марте 2007 года. В нем применены фирменные наработки Fujitsu Laboratories Limited по работе с H.264. Отмечается, что это первый в отрасли чип, обладающий поддержкой H.264 High Profile, Level 4.0. Он будет применяться для воспроизведения и записи HD-видео в домашних плеерах, оснащенных жесткими дисками и в домашнем сетевом оборудовании. Одновременно с высокой степенью сжатия, предлагаемой H.264, алгоритм требует примерно в 10 раз больше вычислений, чем другие компрессоры. Версия H.264, High Profile, Level 4.0, применяемая в DVD нового поколения, предоставляет более высокое качество картинки, а это, в свою очередь, требует более быстродействующих чипов, таких как чип Fujitsu, для обработки сигнала.
