Японская компания NTT Electronics разработала новый аппаратный кодер MPEG-2, удовлетворяющий спецификациям HDTV. NTT Electronics (NEL) входит в состав корпорации NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) и является ведущим разработчиком устройства для оптических сетей связи, лазеров, сверхвысокоскоростных электронных устройств, продуктов MPEG-2, устройств для передачи данных.
Новый чип от NTT Electronics, носящий благозвучное имя LibraENC, предназначен для потребительской электроники и может кодировать видеоконтент в режиме реального времени в разрешениях до 1080i (1920x1080 пикселей, чересстрочная развертка). LibraENC включает в себя два ядра по обработке MPEG-2 и мультиплексор, размещенные в микросхеме размером 27 x 27 мм. Задержка при кодировании HD-видео составляет менее 100 мс. 
Компания покажет новый чип на японской выставке CEATEC 2006, которая пройдет с 3 по 7 октября. В планах NTT Electronics производить около 1 млн. микросхем LibraENC в год. Начало продаж намечено на 1 октября. Стоимость чипа составит 60,30$ в партиях 100 тыс. штук.
