Как вы знаете, семейство графических процессоров ATI Radeon X1000 включает технологию Avivo, предназначенную для аппаратного ускорения декодирования видеопотока с H.264/VC-1. Однако, младшие серии (X1300 и X1600) поддерживают лишь обработку видео в формате до 720p. Аппаратная акселерация для 1080p есть лишь в моделях X1800 и X1900.

Источник сообщает, что ATI собирается дать возможность комфортного просмотра фильмов на носителях HD-DVD и Blu-ray, которые в основном имеют формат 1920 x 1080, покупателям графических карт массового сегмента. Для этого в будущем GPU RV550 будет интегрирован видеопроцессор Xilleon, который способен декодировать поток H.264/VC-1 до 40 Мбит/с. Новая технология, Universal Video Decoder, даёт возможность одновременной обработки двух видеопотоков, что пригодится для таких функций, как, например, "картинка-в-картинке" (PiP).

Основой для RV550 послужит графический процессор RV516. Новый чип пока не получил официального имени в линейке Radeon, но уже известны некоторые его характеристики: частота ядра GPU (и, возможно, видеопроцессора) составит 600 МГц, а памяти - 800 МГц. Интерфейс памяти - 128-битный, но о её размере данных нет. Чип поддерживает Dual-DVI и HDCP.

ATI подготовила два референсных графических адаптера с пассивным охлаждением на основе RV550: Clarity, оборудованный DVI и аналоговыми видеовыходами, а также Crystal - DVI и HDMI с поддержкой HDCP. Образцы RV550 ожидаются в сентябре, а серийное производство - не ранее декабря. Учитывая ориентацию решений на его базе на массовый сегмент рынка, их прогнозируемая стоимость не превысит 200 долларов. Если вы собираетесь подготовить свой ПК к "эпохе HD", то возможно стоит подождать именно этих видеокарт. Тем более, что приводов Blu-ray и HD DVD пока в широкой продаже нет.
