Американская телефонная компания Verizon объявила о достижении многолетнего соглашения со службой общественного телевидения (Public Broadcasting Service, PBS), согласно которому будет транслировать его программы через свои оптоволоконные сети. Отныне, в некоторых городах штатов Калифорния, Флорида, Мэриленд, Массачусетс, Нью-Йорк, Виржиния и Техас через FiOS от Verizon будут транслироваться не менее трех местных каналов некоммерческого культурно-просветительного ТВ. В числе прочих каналов, Verizon будет осуществлять и передачу программ в формате HDTV сообщает InternetNews.<br /><br />По мнению аналитиков исследовательской компании JupiterResearch, данный шаг является хорошей демонстрацией того, как телефонные компании могут конкурировать с кабельными операторами. Не исключено, что примеру Verizon последует и AT&T.<br /><br />Финансовые детали контракта не разглашаются.<br /><br />В этом году Verizon попытается подключить к услугам IPTV более миллиона человек в 9 штатах страны.
