Не смотря на то, что Microsoft в ближайшее время собирается выпустить в качестве дополнения к Xbox 360 внешний привод HD DVD, игры для приставки всё же будут выходить исключительно на DVD-дисках объёмом 8,5 Гбайт.<br /><br />Об этом сообщили официальные представители Microsoft, уточнив, что HD-привод пригодится игрокам исключительно для просмотра видео. Игровые же программы будут выпускаться только на DVD-9, как и сейчас, а сама картинка будет иметь разрешение, соответствующее стандарту 720p. Видео, в свою очередь, можно будет лицезреть с разрешением повыше - в стандарте 1080i.<br /><br />Не совсем ясно, почему Microsoft наотрез отказывается от выпуска игр на дисках HD DVD: учитывая сложность современных игровых приложений, созданных для приставки нового поколения, общий объём игрушки может превысить доступные 8,5 Гбайт. С другой стороны, пока что трудно себе представить хотя бы одну игру, дистрибутив которой способен "распластаться" на 25 гигабайтах дискового пространства.
